Whitlock’s time of 7 minutes, 45.19 seconds capped a stellar week in which he also broke Michael Phelps’ record for 17- and 18-year-olds in the 400 freestyle — and he did it all just a short drive away from his home in Noblesville, an Indianapolis suburb.
