Indian Prairie School District 204 on Tuesday announced it will be hosting its third annual Mental Health and Wellness Symposium next month in Aurora.
The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, at Metea Valley High School at 1801 N. Eola Road in Aurora, according to a news release from the district.
New this year, Indian Prairie is making the event a joint effort with five other area districts: East Aurora School District 131, West Aurora School District 129, Naperville School District 203, Wheaton School District 200 and Oswego-based School District 308.
The programming – open to students in grades six through 12 and parents – is meant to provide support and resources for dealing with mental health challenges, Tuesday’s news release said. There will be breakout sessions on topics like managing anxiety and self-esteem.
It will also include a keynote session by Doug Bolton, who was a psychologist and principal for more than 20 years at North Shore Academy, a therapeutic school in Highland Park, the release said.
Adult attendees will receive a copy of Bolton’s book, “Untethered: Creating Connected Families, Schools and Communities to Raise a Resilient Generation,” according to the release. The first 500 adults to register will receive a welcome bag, and the first 200 student participants will receive a free T-shirt, the release said.
There will also be a free lunch and child care services at the event, officials said.
Registration is open to the public at https://www.ipsd.org/symposium.
