Evanston firefighter treated at hospital following residential fire

An Evanston firefighter was being treated for heat exhaustion at a local hospital following a fire at a home on Monday, according to a news release from the Evanston Fire Department. The family living in the home has been displaced and is being assisted with shelter by the American Red Cross.

Firefighters were dispatched to a home in the 1900 block of Warren Street on Monday around 11 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and active fire conditions.

The family was able to exit the building safely before firefighters arrived on the scene, according to the news release. No civilian injuries have been reported.

Per the news release, fire crews required approximately 30 minutes to bring the fire under control, and neighboring departments assisted the Evanston Fire Department with suppression efforts and station coverage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
