1 dead, 10 injured in multi-vehicle crash in Englewood, police say

One person was killed and at least 10 others were injured Friday night in a multi-vehicle crash in the Englewood neighborhood, according to Chicago police.

A vehicle traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed went through a red light and hit two vehicles at an intersection in the 1600 block of West 59th Street around 9:30 p.m., police said. The male driver in the speeding vehicle fled the scene, leaving four passengers behind. 

An unidentified male passenger in his 20s sustained blunt force trauma from the impact of the crash. He was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. 

A 25-year-old woman in critical condition from blunt force trauma and a 16-year-old girl in good condition with a femur fracture were also transported to University of Chicago. A 15-year-old girl sustained a spinal fracture, and was transported to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition.  

Six people in other vehicles were taken to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries, police said. 

The speeding vehicle was reported stolen, and a firearm was found at the scene, police said. Detectives are investigating the crash, police said.
