1 in custody after building struck during 3-vehicle accident on South Side

A 19-year-old man was arrested overnight after a 3-vehicle traffic accident where a building was struck in the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood, Chicago police said.

About 1 a.m., officers touring the area after shots were fired in the 2000 block of West 79th Street saw a 3-vehicle accident occur, police said. A white SUV headed west on 79th Street disregarded a red light and struck a blue sedan which struck a black SUV. The first vehicle continued on an struck a commercial building, police said.

Three people were inside the white SUV and two fled the scene.  Officers placed a 19-year-old man who suffered broken ribs into custody. He was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital and listed in good condition.

No other injuries were reported, and charges were pending.
