1 killed, 13 hurt in South Side traffic crash involving CTA bus

One person was killed and 13 injured after a stolen vehicle crashed into another vehicle and a CTA bus in the South Side Washington Park neighborhood Wednesday evening, according to authorities.

Around 7 p.m., police officers saw a vehicle in the 6800 block of South State Street driving fast and “into oncoming traffic.” Officers followed the vehicle to an intersection in the 6000 block of State, where it first struck another vehicle and then hit a CTA bus, according to Chicago police.

The driver of the second vehicle was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead. From the bus, 10 people, including the operator, were taken to the hospital with various injuries.

Three occupants of the first vehicle, which was stolen and contained four guns, were placed in custody and taken to the hospital with injuries.
