15-year-old girl wounded Tuesday morning in drive-by shooting near school

A 15-year-old girl was wounded Tuesday morning in a shooting near a middle school on the South Side in the Chatham neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Shortly before 7:45 a.m., the young teen was walking in the 8500 block of South Lafayette Avenue when a black sedan approached and two gunmen exited and opened fire striking the teenage girl to the left thigh, police said.

The victim was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital where she was listed in fair condition. The gunmen returned to the sedan and fled the scene southbound, police said.

No one was in custody and detectives were investigating.
