Two gunshot victims were left in critical condition following two separate shootings overnight in the Auburn Gresham and New City neighborhoods, Chicago police said.
The latest shooting happened shortly before 3:30 a.m. Thursday in the 8600 block of South Sangamon Street, police said.
A 35-year-old man was standing by his car when he heard gunshots and realized he had been shot. The man suffered a wound to his temple and left leg, and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was listed in critical condition.
Earlier overnight, a 46-year-old woman was accidentally shot leaving her residence by a known person in the 3700 block of South Hermitage Avenue.
Police said the male was handling a gun when it accidentally discharged, striking the woman to her chest. The male whose age was not given, dropped the woman off to an area hospital but left before officers arrived, police said. The woman was listed was listed in critical condition.
Detectives were investigating both overnight shootings.
