2 women shot near Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl parade

Philadelphia authorities are investigating a double shooting that happened Friday outside the parade where up to 1 million Eagles fans celebrated their team’s Super Bowl LIX win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Authorities said a 27-year-old Hispanic woman and a 20-year-old Asian female were both shot in their leg shortly after 2:30 p.m. They were transported by medics to Presbyterian Hospital and listed in stable condition.

No crime scene was immediately identified, no weapon had been found and no arrests had been made as of 5 p.m. Friday. The investigation remains open, police said.

What led to Friday’s shooting in the City of Brotherly Love wasn’t immediately clear.

Police were searching the sizable crowd for a suspect wearing a gray Eagles jersey, according to updates on the Citizen app.

Eagles fans are notoriously among the most aggressive in professional sports. They famously booed a man dressed as Santa Claus and pelted him with snowballs during a 1968 game. Their former stadium housed a jail and a courtroom for when things turned ugly.

When the Chiefs won the Super Bowl last year, gunfire at that team’s parade left one person dead and another 22 wounded.

On Sunday, the Eagles defeated the Chiefs 40-22 in New Orleans to become the NFL’s latest champions.
