20-year-old woman fatally wounded overnight in Grand Crossing neighborhood

A 20-year-old woman was fatally wounded overnight on the South Side in the Grand Crossing neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Shortly before 1:15 a.m., officers responded to a call of a person shot in the 7800 block of South Eberhart Avenue and found the victim shot twice to the face.

Police said the woman was involved in an argument with a group of females when an unknown male approached on foot, pulled out a firearm and fired shots at the victim. She was taken to UChicago Medicine where she was pronounced dead.

The gunman fled the scene on foot, police said.

No one was in custody and detectives were investigating.
