Gary part of $117.5M EPA Solar for All grant program

The city of Gary is one of four Hoosier cities to benefit from a $117.5 million federal grant to provide solar energy to low-income households. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced the Solar for All program this week financed through the $27 billion Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, established under the Biden administration’s Inflation Reduction Act. Democrats have hailed the project as a way to combat the climate crisis, lower energy costs for families and create good-paying jobs. Calumet College gala tops $100,000 in student aid

More than $100,000 for student scholarships was raised April 19, at Calumet College of St. Joseph’s 59th Trustees’ Annual Scholarship Gala. A release said 430 benefactors attended the event at the Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana. President Amy McCormack said because of fundraising efforts, Calumet College was “the lowest priced comprehensive private institution in the state of Indiana.” Student government vice president Aaron Csok said because of the generosity of donors, “countless students will be able to pursue their aspirations without the burden of overwhelming debt.” Awards were presented celebrating alumni, corporate citizenship and the embodiment of the school’s mission. Insulin affordability impacts public health

As prices for necessities continue to inflate, lawmakers and healthcare providers have turned their attention to large pharmaceutical companies, alleging a conspiracy to price Hoosiers out of needed medications. On March 19, Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita filed a lawsuit against drug manufacturers and third-party administrators for artificially inflating insulin prices, according to documents filed in Lake County Superior Court Civil Division 5.
