JJ Redick is being hired as the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, a person with knowledge of the decision tells The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Lakers hadn’t yet publicly announced the decision to hire the former NBA shooting guard for his first coaching job. The 39-year-old Redick is an extraordinary choice by the Lakers, who hired a 15-year veteran with absolutely no coaching experience to lead a franchise with 17 NBA titles, one of the biggest brand names in world sports — and LeBron James, the top scorer in league history.

As West Dundee prepares for Spring Hill Mall demolition, fencing goes up and Pace bus routes get changed

West Dundee started fencing off the parking lot for the defunct Spring Hill Mall Tuesday, while a change remains in the works for a stop on Pace Bus routes there and work moves forward for the property’s redevelopment. “We have talked to Pace, and they are switching the routes to still include the stops near Spring Hill Mall on Route 72 but relocating the mall stop, which was in front of Chubby Bullfrog, to in front of Kohl’s, which remains open,” said West Dundee Village Manager Joe Cavallaro. Retired Cubs starting pitcher Ryan Dempster sells Lakeview home for $2.5M

Retired Chicago Cubs starting pitcher and Marquee Sports Network analyst and talk-show host Ryan Dempster and his wife on June 6 sold their six-bedroom, 5,650-square-foot Lakeview house for $2.45 million — just $50,000 below his asking price.   Dempster, 47, pitched for the Cubs from 2004 until 2012 and retired from baseball in 2014.
