Early closure at 31st Street Beach over holiday weekend after recent fatal shootings

Citing “ongoing and escalating” violence there in recent weeks, 4th Ward Ald. Lamont Robinson has successfully lobbied for the early closure of 31st Street Beach over the holiday weekend. The beach will have a boosted police presence, new fencing and cameras. 2 women dead, three children hospitalized after Grand Crossing shooting

A shooting in Grand Crossing this morning has left three children injured and two dead. Chicago police said officers responded to calls and a technology alert of shots fired in the 7100 Block of South Woodlawn. Police found five victims with gunshot wounds. Three children aged 5, 7, and 8 are all in critical condition at Comer Children’s hospital. A 42-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene and a 22-year-old woman died at University of Chicago Hospital, police say.
