Evanston City Council approves federal funding application for Hilda’s Place shelter

Evanston City Council approved of an application for Evanston to apply for $2 million in federal funding to help renovate and reopen Hilda’s Place, a 30-bed overnight homeless shelter operated by the nonprofit Connections for the Homeless. Funding for the project would come from federal CARES Act money as part of Community Development Block Grants designed to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Skokie July 4th parade brings out community groups, crowd favorites

The morning of July 4 turned somewhat cloudy in Skokie, but that helped cool the air when the Independence Day parade stepped off at noon at Oakton College, traveled north on Lincoln, then wound around Niles Center, passed in front of the Skokie Theater and traveled east on Oakton Street through the heart of downtown Skokie.
