Cook County Jail inmate dead following ‘medical emergency,’ authorities say
A Bridgeview man who was being held in the Cook County Jail died Friday following a “medical emergency,” the Cook County Sheriff’s office confirmed. Ahmad Abed, 32, was being held in the jail’s residential treatment unit, which houses people with more serious medical or mental health needs, according to Sheriff’s office representatives. He suffered “an apparent medical emergency” there Friday afternoon and was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital. Abed was pronounced dead at 2:25 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner.
