Wheelchair bound man wounded Wednesday night on South Side

Chicago police responding to ShotSpotter technology Thursday night discovered a man in a wheelchair wounded on the South Side near the Englewood neighborhood. About 10:20 p.m., the man was discovered shot to the right hip in the 7400 block of South Perry Avenue on the sidewalk. The suspect fled in an unknown direction from the scene, police said. The victim was taken to UChicago Medicine where he was listed in fair condition, but he refused to provide details about the shooting, police said. No one was in custody, and detectives were investigating.  

Oak Park high school hires its 4th campus safety chief in just over a year

A new director of campus safety will start at Oak Park-River Forest High School next week, the fourth hire for the role in 14 months. On July 11, the Oak Park-River Forest High School District 200 Board of Education approved the hiring of Kristen Devitt to be campus safety chief at OPRFHS, the district’s lone school. Devitt, who has been working as a regional director of security for Kaiser Permanente Hawaii, will start at the high school Aug. 1.
