Three Skokie parks renamed to honor Native American tribes

The Skokie Park District announced on Wednesday it would rename three Skokie parks to honor Native American tribes at the requests of the tribes. The name changes have been made online, but physical changes to the signs will take some time, the Executive Director of the park district, Michelle Tuft, said. The three parks with the name changes are Menominee Park, Seneca Park and Sequoya Park, which will have the new names of Mamaceqtaw Park, Onöndowa’ga Park, which will have a subheading that reads “People of the Great Hill” and Sequoyah Park, respectively. Christkindlmarket to return to Chicago and Aurora Nov. 22, officials say

While there will be no Christkindlmarket at Wrigley Field in 2024, officials announced two locations will reopen in Chicago and Aurora on Nov. 22. Officials with the German-American Events announced the 28th season set to open Nov. 22 at Daley Plaza in Chicago, and at RiverEdge Park in Aurora. The Daley Plaza location is at 50 W. Washington St., and RiverEdge Park is located at 360 N. Broadway in Aurora, according to a news release. Security guard and CCL holder fires weapon after group attacks on South Side

A conceal and carry license holder fired his weapon after suffering a broken finger while getting attacked by a large group Tuesday morning in the Chatham neighborhood, Chicago police said. About 8:30 a.m., a security guard was working in the 100 block of West 87th Street when he became involved in a verbal argument that turned physical with a large group of people, police said.
