The new school year started Thursday for the thousands of students of Arlington Heights School District 25, with a new superintendent at the helm and full day kindergarten now offered at seven schools. “The board voted to expand our kindergarten program to a full day at the interest of the entire community,” said Superintendent Brian Kaye. ‘Spirit Week’ marked the opening days of the new academic year at Oak Park-River Forest H.S.

The new academic year is underway for the more than 3,000 students at Oak Park-River Forest High School, with the school hosting a weeklong “Spirit Week” that started Monday. “We’ve all been commenting [on] what a really smooth start we’ve had to the school year,” School District 200 spokeswoman Karin Sullivan told Pioneer Press. Village of Niles buys long-vacant land with hopes of turning into a public park

The Niles Village Board voted Sept. 11 to buy land for a future park development, calling the special meeting to approve the purchase ahead of a grant application deadline. The development is planned for a park at 7421 Waukegan Road. The application for the grant was due last Friday, according to village officials. Elgin City Council set to fund emergency shelter this winter with rule that users must be a resident

The city of Elgin will again fund an overnight winter shelter run by One Collective, a nonprofit mission helping the homeless, at a downtown church. But there’s one major change this year.
