Griffith pins its 2025 budget hopes on state approval of excess tax levy increase

To help keep its coffers filled, the town is seeking permission from the state to raise an additional $505,000 in excess tax levy. Town officials assure the $32 million budget for 2025, which passed unanimously on Oct. 29 without public comment or discussion, is balanced and achievable.

Charges dismissed in Porter County murder case enmeshed with Lake County, federal cases
Porter County Prosecutor Gary Germann dismissed a murder charge against a woman Friday in a murder-for-hire case enmeshed with state and federal cases from Lake County because he said there isn’t sufficient credible evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that she committed the crime.

District 2 State Rep. Earl Harris believes experience helps his campaign, but his opponent, Ben Ruiz, believes a fresh face is good for constituents.
