As we look toward the 2024 NFL Season and the 2025 Super Bowl, it’s hard to believe the Kansas City Chiefs aren’t the prohibitive favorite to win it all again.
But sportsbooks – just hours after Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce captured their second straight title – installed the San Francisco 49ers (+450) as the favorite, with Kansas City (+750) a distant second.
Now a case could be made that those odds present value for the Chiefs, and you wouldn’t be wrong. A bet for the 49ers – or any other team, for that matter – is a bet against Reid and Mahomes.
And who’s doing that after what we witnessed in a season that culminated in Las Vegas on Sunday with another K.C. masterpiece?
Of course, this entire dynasty could come falling down in an instant. If a woman with little talent like Yoko Ono could tear apart The Beatles, Taylor Swift is certainly powerful enough to tear apart the Chiefs.
I mean, this is a mega superstar who once wrote about this very topic in the song Fifteen.
In your life, you’ll do things greater than dating the boy on the football team …
But barring a Yoko/John-like breakup over the next 362 days or a mass exodus in free agency (more than half of the Chiefs’ defensive starters will be unrestricted when the calendar turns to the new league year next month, including All-Pro DT Chris Jones), Kansas City has to be the pick.
And even if both of those things come to fruition, Reid and Mahomes will find a way to be in the mix. They always do.
As my Action Network colleague Sean Treppedi said recently, even if there is a breakup, remember that after The Beatles’ split, Paul McCartney released Maybe I’m Amazed as his first single on his debut solo album.
Not a bad way to continue a dynasty.
