Two men and a woman were seriously injured in an apartment fire that broke out Thursday night in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, officials said.
Shortly after 11:30 p.m., Chicago police officers responded to a call of a fire at an apartment building in the 4700 block of West Ohio Street. When they arrived Chicago firefighters were on the scene to extinguish the blaze. Officials said three victims suffered injuries from the fire.
A 33-year-old man suffered burns to the arms and face, and was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood where he was listed in critical condition, An 81-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman both suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and listed in serious condition, police said.
A warming bus was sent to the scene and the Red Cross was on hand to assist residents. The cause of the fire was not immediately known and officials were investigating.
