3 wounded in exchange of gunfire on West Side during attempt robbery

Officers responded to a call of a person shot Monday night in the Lawndale neighborhood and found three people wounded during an exchange of gunfire during an attempt robbery.

Shortly after 10 p.m., police found three people wounded in the 3800 block of West Roosevelt Road.Two men, ages 34 and 50 and a 16-year-old boy suffered gunshot wounds, police said.

The oldest victim was struck on the wrist, and was taken to St. Anthony Hospital where he was listed in good condition. The 34-year-old man was struck to the neck and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition. The teenage boy suffered a leg wound, and was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, police said.

A preliminary investigation indicated the boy was trying to rob the two men when an exchange of gunfire ensued. Police said an additional gunman also fired shots but fled the scene.

The teenage boy was taken into custody, and a weapon was recovered.
