38-year-old man fatally stabbed during robbery at gas station Wednesday morning on South Side

A 38-year-old man was fatally stabbed during an attempt robbery at a gas station Wednesday morning in the Englewood neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Shortly before 11:15 a.m., the victim, 36, was inside a gas station in the 7600 block of South Halsted Street when a 38-year-old man and a a younger man, 20, entered. Both men pulled the victim by his hair and demanded his belongings, police said.

The victim pulled out a knife and stabbed the older robber, and the younger robber pulled out a firearm, wounding the victim to the face, police said. The victim fled the scene as well as both robbers, and both were taken into custody by responding officers, police said.

The robbery victim suffered blunt trauma to the face, and was taken in fair condition to UChicago Medicine.

The 38-year-old robber suffered a stab wound to the neck, and was taken to the same hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A firearm was recovered at the scene, and detectives were investigating.
