38-year-old man fatally wounded Tuesday morning on South Side, Chicago police said

A 38-year-old man was fatally wounded Tuesday morning while he was inside of a vehicle on the South Side in the Calumet Heights neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Shortly before 8:45 a.m., the victim was inside a vehicle in the 9600 block of South Merrill Avenue when gunfire erupted, striking him multiple times to the body. He was taken to UChicago Medicine where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

A black sedan was spotted fleeing north from the scene, police said.

No one was in custody and detectives were investigating.
