8-year-old boy fatally wounded Thursday in South Shore identified

An 8-year-old boy who was among two children shot Thursday afternoon in the South Shore neighborhood has been identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The boy was identified as Josiah Hooker of the 1400 block of East 71st Place, officials said.

Chicago police said two boys, ages 8 and 5, were inside a residence on 71st Place when they both were wounded shortly before 5:30 p.m., citing preliminary information.

The youngest boy suffered a graze wound to the head, and the older boy was shot to the left side of the head. Both boys were taken to Comer Children’s Hospital where the older boy was pronounced dead.

Friday, the older boy was identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
