9-year-old girl critically injured Thursday night in hit and run on South Side

A 9-year-old girl was left in critical condition after a driver struck her while she was crossing the street and fled the scene Thursday night in the Calumet Heights neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m., the girl was crossing the street with two other people in the 9500 block of South Paxton Avenue when a silver SUV failed to stop at a red light and struck the girl, police said. The SUV fled the scene.

The girl was taken to Comer Children ‘s Hospital where she was listed in critical condition.

No one was in custody, but detectives are investigating.
