Elgin police staff said on a weekly radio program Friday they are working on a tougher ordinance to crack down on illegal street racing in the city. It would involve much higher fines than normal traffic stops. Beyond racing, numbers for speeding tickets and blowing stop signs are way up this year, a continuing trend since 2020, they said.
