Firefighters from Gary, Munster and Merrillville Fire Departments extinguished a fire that started Saturday night at Ralph Waldo Emerson High School with no injuries. Opening in 1909, enrollment declined over time and the school eventually closed in 2008. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
