Aurora is collecting feedback for an updated affordable housing strategy, officials said.
Chris Ragona, the city’s Community Development manager, said the city wants to learn about the current status and unmet needs of housing in the city and prepare for the next 10 years to preserve and expand affordable housing opportunities.
Affordable housing is typically defined as a household paying 30% of its gross monthly household income towards a mortgage or monthly rent payment, regardless of total income.
The feedback will capture ideas and opinions on what strategies, services and programs Aurora needs to keep people in their homes, promote home ownership and preserve and expand affordable housing options to meet the needs of its diverse population.
One way people can give feedback is through an online survey, at https://aurora-il.civilspace.io/en/projects/city-of-aurora-affordable-housing-survey/engagements/city-of-aurora-affordable-housing-survey.
People also can request a one-on-one consultation with a city staff member. This consultation would take about 15 minutes and be done on the phone, through a virtual online meeting or in person, officials said.
The city also will hold three open houses in February to solicit feedback and give people an opportunity to talk to city staff. All of the sessions would be from 5 to 7 p.m.
The first session is set for Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the Aurora Customer Service Center, 3770 McCoy Drive. The second session is on Friday, Feb. 16, at the Aurora University Hill Welcome Center, 1315 Prairie St. The third session is Monday, Feb. 19, in the Fifth Floor Conference Room of Aurora City Hall, 44 E. Downer Place.
