Only Chicago’s disingenuous Mayor Brandon Johnson could tout that he plans
to drop ShotSpotter technology, but only after all the Democrats attending
his party’s national convention are safely back home!
Johnson said, in a statement issued Feb. 13, he will cancel the gunshot detection system in September, adding that the millions in financial resources then will be
used on the most effective strategies and tactics proven to accelerate the
current downward trend in violent crime.
Johnson failed to name any specific strategies or tactics. Last year, Chicago recorded 617 murders, compared with 696 in 2022. I guess the mayor considers that a downward trend. It’s a truly sad comparison, though, when you learn that, in 2023,
two cities with much larger populations witnessed about half that many
victims: Los Angeles (327) and New York (386).
