Thursday forecast: Showers, thunderstorms, and patchy fog

Temperatures are expected in the low 50s Thursday as a warm front pushing potentially severe thunderstorms and damaging wind into the area, officials said.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected during the morning hours, and a few are expected to become severe with large hail and up to 60 mph winds, according to the National Weather Service.

Up to 2-inch hail and strong winds are expected south of the Kankakee River and Illinois River where officials said there is a slight chance of tornadoes.

Flooding may become an issue south of Interstate 80. Farther north, elevated thunderstorms are possible but severe storms aren’t expected.

Thunderstorms are expected to redevelop Thursday afternoon moving south into the evening, officials said.

Current conditions at O’Hare International Airport are thunderstorms with light rain at 47 degrees. Farther south at  Midway Airport conditions are thunderstorms with rain, midst and fog at 50 degrees.
