Geneva woman succumbs to serious injuries from Sugar Grove Township crash

A Geneva woman died on Sunday after she was critically injured in a single-vehicle crash on Thursday morning in Sugar Grove Township, law enforcement officials said.

Sandra Sanchez, 20, died Sunday evening at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, according to a news release from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office. In the release, officials said that she was left in critical condition with multiple traumatic injuries after the car she was riding in swerved off the road and hit a utility pole in Sugar Grove Township.

At around 8 a.m. on Thursday, Kane County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a crashed gray 2014 Honda Civic near the 42W300 block of Ke De Ka Road, officials said.

Sanchez, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was transported to Ascension Mercy medical center in Aurora by ambulance, officials said. She was later transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for further care, according to the release.

Officials said the driver, a 19-year-old from Batavia, was also transported to Mercy in Aurora by ambulance with minor injuries.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the car was traveling westbound on Ke De Ka Road when the vehicle’s passenger side tires went off the roadway and onto the shoulder at a curve, officials said in the release.

The driver attempted to correct the vehicle, but it continued off the roadway and struck a utility pole near the front passenger side, the release said.

Kane County Sheriff’s Office detectives are continuing to investigate the crash, officials said on Monday.
