A second person has been charged in connection with a carjacking in Boulder Hill on Jan. 15, the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday.
Edward Dampier, 20, of Hazel Crest, is facing charges of aggravated vehicular hijacking, vehicular hijacking, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and possession of a converted motor vehicle, all of which are felonies, in connection with the incident, according to a news release from the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office.
The release said Dampier turned himself in to the sheriff’s office on Wednesday.
He is set to appear before a judge for a detention hearing on April 18, officials said in the release.
Kendall County Sheriff’s officials said that information received from the community and law enforcement partners led to Dampier being arrested and charged, according to the release.
The first person arrested in connection with the incident, Ronnell Binion, 21, Country Club Hills, was previously taken into custody by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office in Indiana after a vehicle pursuit, Kendall County Sheriff’s officials announced on Jan. 19.
Binion was charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking, vehicular hijacking and possession of a stolen motor vehicle in connection with the incident, officials said in January.
In the original news release from the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office about the incident, which was sent out on Jan. 16, officials said the carjacking took place in the first block of Seneca Drive in Boulder Hill.
The vehicle that was stolen was being sold on an online marketplace, according to the original release. Officials said the vehicle’s owner was contacted by the alleged offenders, and they made arrangements to meet.
When they met, the alleged offenders brandished firearms and took the vehicle, which was later recovered in Lake County, Indiana, according to the original release.
