A Skokie School District 68 board of education member is moving out of the school district boundaries and consequently must step down from the school board. The district is seeking applications to replace him, due at noon on Friday, May 3.
Board member Jinu Joseph’s term runs through the April 2025 election, and the board must appoint someone now so it can conduct regular business through that time.
“His contributions to the district over the last five years (have) been significant, and he will be missed,” the district said in a statement.
Under the Illinois School Code, Joseph’s resignation was effective when he filed it at last Thursday’s Board meeting. The state code requires the board to appoint a successor within 60 days to serve until the next election.
The district is asking interested residents to submit an application.
The completed application form must be received by Board Secretary Zoraida Gonzalez at the Skokie School District 68 Educational Service Center at 9440 N. Kenton Avenue, Skokie, Illinois or via email at zgonzalez@skokie68.org no later than 12 p.m on May 3. She will schedule interviews.
Applicants to fill this vacancy on the board must be 18 years of age or older, have lived in the district for at least one year, and be registered to vote in School District 68. Under Illinois law, registered sex offenders are precluded from appointment or election to a school district board of education.
The board will announce the appointee at the May 16 school board meeting.
The district will also be seeing change in the administrative area. Superintendent James Garwood plans to retire on June 30 and Scott Grens will take over as superintendent on July 1.
