Religion roundup: Create blankets, see magic and more at area churches

Flossmoor

St. John the Evangelist, 2640 Park Drive: Yarn Ministry meets from 4 to 6 p.m. May 7 in the Guild Room. This is a new time. The group is open to those who knit or crochet. Members make prayer shawls and lap blankets to give to parishioners who have long-term or terminal illnesses, those grieving the loss of a loved one, and those celebrating a sacrament such as marriage or an infant baptism. Homer Glen

St. Bernard Parish, 13030 W. 143rd St.: Trip to The Shrine of Christ’s Passion in St. John, Indiana, on May 23. A 9 a.m. Mass at St. Bernard takes place before participants leave at 10 a.m. for the shrine, a unique half-mile prayer trail that portrays Christ’s life and death. Golf cart tours are available. Attendees will have lunch at Teibel’s Restaurant in Schererville before heading back. Expected arrival back is 5 p.m.

Palos Heights

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 7800 W. McCarthy Road: Annual rummage sale from 8 to 3 p.m. May 3 and 8 a.m. to noon May 3 in the Life Center at the back of the church. Attendees will find clothes, home goods, dishes, holiday decor, furniture, sporting equipment, toys, books, games, tools, yard equipment, linens and more. Saturday everything is 50% off. Sauk Trail Baptist Temple, 4411 Sauk Trail: Motivating Magic at 7 p.m. May 2 and 3. The free show features the well-known professional and mind-blowing illusionist Chase Williams. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The show is open to the community, including families, friends, neighbors, students and school staff members, and is appropriate for families. South Holland

Christ Our Savior Parish, 880 E. 154th St.: Scripture study group meets at 10 a.m. April 30 in McMahon Hall. Participants reflect on and discuss the upcoming weekend scripture readings. Meetings end with a decade of the Rosary. The group meets every Tuesday. Everyone is welcome.

Donut Sunday is at 11:30 a.m. May 5. It’s an Events Committee fundraiser after 10:30 a.m. Mass. Pay $2 and receive a donut and beverage. This happens the first Sunday of the month. Information: christ our savior parish.org.

Tinley Park

Trinity Lutheran Church, 6850 W. 159th St. Grief Share one-day workshop at 7pm May 7 for those who have lost a loved one such as a spouse, child, parent, relative or friend. Regular sessions of the 13-week series are available at 7 p.m. Tuesdays starting May 14 and via Zoom at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays starting May 15.
