Gurnee man found dead after going outside to smoke, apparently being dragged by vehicle

Authorities Tuesday said they were continuing to investigate the death of a Gurnee man who apparently was dragged by a vehicle.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office Tuesday had yet to release the man’s identity, who lived in the 3800 block of Dorchester Avenue.

Gurnee police said they received a report at around 3:39 a.m. Monday of a body in the road at Dorchester Avenue and Estes Street. Responding officers found the man’s body and said it appeared he had been dragged by a vehicle.

The man’s wife told police that she had last seen her husband at around 3 a.m. when he went outside to smoke.

“Our officers are diligently working to gather information and evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident,” police said in a social media post. “At this stage, we are treating this as an active investigation. We urge anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist us in our efforts.”

Det. Shawn Gaylor, the department’s public information officer, said Tuesday that police were actively pursuing leads in the ongoing investigation, but said there was no additional information available.

Police said anyone with information can submit it anonymously to Lake County CrimeStoppers at (847) 662-2222, online at www.lakecountycrimestoppers.com, or through the “P3″ mobile app.
