Island Lake police identify suspect in trashing of station lobby

Island Lake police say they have identified a woman who trashed the department’s lobby in the middle of the night Tuesday.

In a Facebook post Wednesday, the department said it had determined who the woman is, based in part on several tips generated after the department posted a video of the incident.

Police have yet to disclose her name, saying that would be released after she is arrested. The department did not immediately respond to an email seeking additional information.

The woman entered the department lobby at 3:41 a.m. Tuesday and sat down briefly on a couch before looking toward a security camera and making an obscene gesture. She then began grabbing handfuls of pamphlets from a hanging display and throwing them around before ripping the holders off the wall and tossing them back over her head.

She then moved on to a nearby bulletin board which she pulled off the wall. The woman then walked out, about a minute after she entered. Other than issuing a sarcastic-sounding “ha ha,” the woman did not say anything on the video.

In the Facebook posts, police did not provide any details on what may have prompted the incident.
