One for the Books: All-ages summer reading program wants you to “Read. Renew. Repeat.”

Go wild at the library this summer with Naperville Public Library’s Summer Reading Program! We invite you to celebrate conservation and sustainability with this year’s theme: “Read. Renew. Repeat.”

Readers of all ages are encouraged to register for the program starting Saturday, June 1. You don’t need a library card to sign up — just hop over to your nearest library location or head to www.naperville-lib.org/srp to start your summer reading adventure.

Children can set their own reading goals

The children’s Summer Reading Program is open to children from birth to fifth grade. This is a great opportunity for kids to continue to build and maintain their reading skills, even when school is not in session.

Once registered online, children can pick up a Summer Reading Kit at the library, which will include a reading log and prizes for the first three levels of the program. Depending on the child’s age, they can win “turtle-y” cool prizes like an animal-themed toy, keychain or suncatcher craft!

With the help of an adult, children can set their own daily reading goal. They can choose the number of pages, chapters, minutes or books they aspire to read each day, depending on their age and reading level.

The program has four levels with 12 days of daily reading in each level. Once a child has completed a level, they can pick a prize from their Summer Reading Kit. Once they’ve filled their entire reading log, children can swing over to Naperville Public Library to pick out their final prize: a brand-new book to keep! They’ll also be entered into the grand prize giveaway for a Summer Reading Program prize basket.

Adults and teens can also join the fun

Adults and teens can create an online account to track their summer reading progress through the library’s online reading platform or pick up a print reading log from the library.

Teens are encouraged to read at least 15 minutes a day throughout the summer. For every five hours they read, they’ll earn a prize. Any form of reading counts including audiobooks, graphic novels, eBooks, paperbacks and more. Roaring to read more? For every additional five hours of reading, teens can earn extra entries into our grand prize giveaway.

Adults can also join in the fun this summer! The adult program is made up of three levels, which can be completed by reading three books per level. Adults and teens can both choose from a variety of prizes at the completion of each level.

Swing over to the library for special programs

Sing, dance and celebrate summer with us at a Summer Kickoff Concert with Jim Gill! Known for songs like “Hands are for Clapping,” “Jumping and Counting” and “Silly Dance Contest,” Jim’s music is sure to have the whole family on their feet. Join us outside at the Wagner Family Pavilion near 95th Street Library at 6 p.m. Friday, June 7.
