The Aurora Farmers Market, the oldest farmers market in Illinois, will open this Saturday for its 113th season, city officials said.
The market will be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays through Oct. 5 at Water Street Square, 65 S. Water St., across from Aurora City Hall in downtown Aurora.
New vendors will join dozens of familiar farmers and fan favorites during the upcoming season, according to a press release about the market.
A special ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday in honor of the market opening for the season. Children’s entertainment from Miss Jaime from the Farm is set for 10 a.m. at the market.
Also on Saturday, Phillips Park Zoo will have animals at the event, there will be live music from Nick Scarpinato and more.
Market manager Felicia Freitag has said there will be a large group of merchants participating at the market this year.
“Each week, there will be 35 to 45 vendors, but over the course of the season we’ll be working with somewhere around 80 vendors total,” she has said.
The Aurora Farmers Market will continue its partnership with Link Up Illinois, which doubles the value of Link/EBT purchases, and the Fresh First Program by Ascension Mercy, which provides vouchers for children on select dates throughout the season, according to the press release.
