Home repair scams topic of program in St. Charles

Home repair scams will be the topic of a program at the St. Charles Public Library on June 18.

One out of every five complaints received at the Illinois Attorney General’s Office involves disputes between homeowners and home repair contractors, according to organizers of the event, set for 7 p.m. in the Huntley Community Room at the library, 1 S. Sixth Ave. in St. Charles.

The presentation will be led by a member of Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s community outreach team. It will focus on home repair scams – what they are, how to spot them and how to prevent being taken advantage of by the scammers.

Participants will learn how to ask the right questions about proposals for work on a home, how to make informed choices when hiring contractors and where to turn for help, event organizers said.

To register for the program, call 630-584-0076 or go to scpld.libnet.info/event/10456837.
