Weather officials call a flood watch as remnants of tropical storm Beryl track across the area

National Weather Service officials said remnants of tropical storm Beryl is expected to track across the Lower Great Lakes region Tuesday night into Wednesday, possibly causing flooding and strong wind gust.

A flood watch is in effect from Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday afternoon when excessive rain fall may cause flooding to rivers, creeks and streams as well as low lying areas, officials warn.

There is a chance of thunderstorms Tuesday in portions of north central and northeast Illinois, and northwest Indiana. Also, officials expect hazardous swimming conditions at Lake Michigan Beaches starting Tuesday night.  The heavy rainfall is expected along and southeast of Interstate 55, officials said.

The remnants of tropical storm Beryl is expected to move northeastward into the region Wednesday. Officials said tropical moisture associated with the storm was expected to create bands of heavy rainfall from late Tuesday afternoon into early Wednesday morning.

Current conditions at Midway Airport is overcast at 80 degrees. Farther northwest at O’Hare International Airport conditions are the same at 79 degrees. Temperatures are expected to remain in the high 70s Tuesday, with between a 60 to 100% chance of showers as the hours progress.
