Summer in Elmwood Park starts with vintage cars on display, bands on stage, and movies in the park

The “Summer in the Circle Concert Series” and movies in the park are in full swing in Elmwood Park, after a kickoff earlier this month that organizers say brought several hundreds of people to the Village Circle open area near Village Hall and a local park.

Summer in the Circle and movies in the park are annual summertime staples in Elmwood Park. This year, the runs started June 14  with the band Hello Weekend! and will continue with bands on stage through late-August and popular movies on a huge screen until mid-July.

The concerts, featuring different bands inspired by various genres, play at Village Circle, at Conti Parkway off 76th and Grand avenues. The movies, “Rookie of the Year” on June 27 and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” on July 18, will be shown in Central Park at 75th and Fullerton avenues.

“We are booking larger bands, which are some of our headliners from [the] past that were featured at Taste of Elmwood Park. We are also adding more food options like Top Butcher, Caputo’s, and Spoon Burger food truck,” Mike Neri, Elwood Park special events director, told Pioneer Press about what’s new for the family-friendly concert series this year.

Neri said about 500-600 people came out on opening night. There was also a car show that evening. On the jumbo screen, the Disney favorite “Cars” played.

People “can expect to have a great time in an awesome atmosphere for the families,” said Neir. Come on out and enjoy the fun with everyone else. You will not be disappointed.”
