One dead in car and bicycle crash in Morton Grove, police say

A car crash near the area of Dempster Street and Lehigh Avenue left one person dead in Morton Grove on Tuesday morning, Morton Grove police said.

Police responded to a car and bicycle traffic crash on July 9 at 10:13 a.m., along with the Morton Grove Fire Department, according to a news release. The victim of the crash was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The victim’s name was not immediately released in order for the police to notify the family, police said.

Lehigh Avenue has a speed limit of 30 mph and an unprotected bike lane. Dempster Street has a protected bike path, and the speed limit is 35 mph in that area. The area is also very close to a bike trail, the North Branch Trail System, on  Forest Preserve District of Cook County land.

Morton Grove Police and the Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) are investigating. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the Morton Grove Police Department at (847) 470-5200.
