Senior Services to hold open house at Aurora facility

Senior Services Associates of Aurora will host an open house at its facility at 2111 Plum St. in Aurora from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug.1.

Staff members will be present to speak with the public on all services offered at the center for seniors 60 years old and older, along with the disabled, according to a press release about the event.

Light appetizers and refreshments will be served, the release stated.

Aurora church getting new pastor

The Rev. Eric Gardell Miller will be installed as the new pastor of Our Savior Lutheran Church at 420 W. Downer Place in  Aurora during a worship service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, at the church.

The homily will be delivered by the Rev. Yehiel Curry, bishop of the Chicago Metropolitan Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The Rev. Sunitha Mortha, assistant bishop of the Metropolitan Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, will preside over the service.

A fellowship time will follow the service, according to church officials.

Miller comes to the Aurora church from Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. He is a graduate of Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Before attending Luther Seminary, Miller was a funeral director in the Miami, Florida, area, church officials said.

CASA Kane County plans bike event

CASA Kane County will stage the War on Wheels: Cruisin’ for CASA Kane County fundraising bike ride on Sunday, Sept. 8, CASA officials said.

The event invites cyclists of all skill levels to choose from three routes—10 miles, 35 miles or 65 miles—each culminating at Sammy’s Bikes, 602 S. First St. in St. Charles.

After the ride, a celebratory gathering will be held for all participants with food and refreshments provided by an on-site food truck, organizers said.

The goal is to raise $100,000 through the event to support CASA Kane County’s mission. The group trains and supervises volunteers who advocate for the best interests of children in Kane County who have experienced abuse and neglect, officials said.

Deadline extended for St. Charles program

The St. Charles Business Alliance is extending the deadline for Made in St. Charles nominations to Wednesday, Aug. 14, group officials said.

The program honors those who make their own products in St.  Charles. Nominations can be filled out online at https://www.stcalliance.org/makersnomination.

Only businesses that have a brick-and-mortar location in St. Charles and make their own products in St. Charles are eligible for nomination, group officials said. Businesses may submit self-nominations for the program.

The program was launched by the St. Charles Business Alliance’s Business Development and Sales Committee, which is run by St. Charles Business Alliance volunteers, in the summer of 2022. In the first year of the program, six St. Charles businesses were selected, and in the second year of the program, six St. Charles industrial and manufacturing businesses were selected.

Kendall circuit clerk announces new app

Kendall County Circuit Clerk Matthew Prochaska has announced the release of a new smartphone application designed to enhance communication with Kendall County residents.

The app offers a way for users to access information from the clerk’s office directly from their smartphones.

“The new Kendall County circuit clerk app is a significant step forward in our commitment to accessibility and transparency,” said Prochaska in a press release about the new app.

The app, developed by TheGovApp.com—a brand of OCV, LLC. —provides access to various features, including information on court cases, the court schedule, payment options, court forms, jury duty information and more.

The Kendall County circuit clerk app is available for free download on the App Store and Google Play, according to the release. Users can search for “Kendall County Circuit Clerk, IL” to find and download the app.

Retreat for women planned in Kane County

The Kane County Forest Preserve District will hold Women’s Weekend: A Nurturing Nature Retreat in September at Camp Tomo Chi-Chi Knolls in Freeman Kame-Meagher Forest Preserve in Gilberts.

The event will include outdoor activities, therapeutic pursuits and the opportunity to connect with like-minded women, according to a press release from the district about the event.

The event will run from 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, to 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 8.

All participants should provide their own yoga mat and reusable water bottle, according to the release, and overnight participants should provide their own tent and sleeping gear. For those who prefer not to spend the night, an option to depart for the evening and return the next morning is available, officials said.

Registration for the retreat is open until Aug. 23 and full payment is required at the time of registration, according to the release. Participants must be 18 years old or older to join. Will County Recorder’s Office offering program for veterans

Veterans can sign up with the Will County Recorder’s Office to participate in Honor Rewards, a free program that offers veterans discounts and incentives at local businesses.

To register, go online at www.willcountyrecorder.com or visit the Recorder of Deeds office, 158 N. Scott St., Joliet, between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. Veterans will receive their Honor Rewards ID card in the mail in about two or three weeks after registration.

Local businesses can participate in the program by contacting the recorder’s office or via the business sign-up link on the recorder’s office website.

Veterans also are encouraged to record their DD-214 military discharge papers at no charge, Will County Recorder Karen A. Stukel said in a statement. The service allows them to keep their original documents safe and use certified copies provided by the office.
