Man, 53, fatally wounded overnight after argument in West Garfield Park neighborhood

A 53-year-old man was fatally wounded in the predawn hours Saturday after an argument in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Shortly after 4 a.m., the victim and a 39-year-old man were standing outside in the 4900 block of West Madison Street when a silver Ford  Explorer pulled up and someone exited. An argument ensued and the person pulled out a gun and opened fire in the victims’ direction.

The younger man was struck to the thigh, and got himself to Stroger Hospital where he was listed in fair condition, police said. The older man was taken to the same hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The gunman fled the scene in an unknown direction. No one was in custody, a detectives were investigating.
