Hammond man could face more than 350 years for allegedly raping child

A Hammond man is facing 15 felonies — and potentially more than 350 years in prison — for repeatedly raping a preteen girl as a “punishment” when she refused to watch porn, charges allege.

Jorge Alberto Patino, 31, is in custody.

A bail hearing Tuesday reset his bond to $60,000, or $6,000 cash surety. His case was unsealed when he was arrested Aug. 2.

He is charged with seven counts of Level 1 felony child molesting, two counts of Level 3 felony rape, two counts of Level 4 felony child molesting, one count of Level 4 felony criminal confinement, two counts of Level 6 felony intimidation and one count of Level 6 felony dissemination of matter harmful to minors.

Hammond Police wrote the abuse happened sometime between Jan. 1, 2022 and June 10, 2024.

The victim told investigators that inappropriate touching had progressed to repeated sexual assaults at Patino’s relative’s house. During a forensic interview, she provided more details.

She estimated he locked her in a bedroom at the relative’s home and sexually assaulted her at least 6-7 times, while people were elsewhere in the home.

The victim later told her mother she was afraid Patino would hurt her siblings. He forced her to watch PornHub videos. If she didn’t, Patino said he’d make the siblings watch him assault her and assault them, too, the affidavit states.

One time, she walked in a bedroom and Patino was “lying” with her siblings and she tried to get them to leave. Enraged, he raped her after they left as “punishment.” She only watched porn when he threatened to assault her sibling.

Another time, he held and raped the victim after she tried to get away when he wanted her to watch porn.

The affidavit notes the child tested positive for a sexually transmitted disease.

Police said she was assaulted from ages 6 to 8.
