A Kane County jury has found a Chicago man guilty of attempted murder for a 2022 shooting at a gas station in Aurora, officials announced Thursday.
Bryon Frazier, 32, is facing between 57 years to life in state prison after being found guilty of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, armed violence and armed habitual criminal, which are all felony offenses, according to a news release from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Officials said in the release that Frazier’s next court date is scheduled for Oct. 16 at the Kane County Judicial Center for motions and sentencing.
On Aug. 18, 2022, at around 4:20 p.m., a man pulled over at a Mobil gas station at 1030 N. Lake St. in Aurora where he had noticed his ex-girlfriend’s parked vehicle, the release said.
After the man approached the vehicle, Frazier returned from inside the gas station and came to stand next to him, officials said. Frazier was the ex-girlfriend’s current boyfriend, according to the release.
Frazier said something to the man, reached into the vehicle to retrieve a handgun and then shot him, officials said.
Frazier and his girlfriend left the scene, but were followed to her home by Illinois State Police, according to the release. Officials said Frazier attempted to run away, but was pursued and taken into custody.
The man who was shot was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove for the gunshot wound and is now confined to a wheelchair, although he is hopeful about someday recovering his ability to walk, officials said in the release.
Frazier remains in custody at the Kane County jail, according to the release.
