Students at Gary’s Banneker Elementary at Marquette were dismissed at 1 p.m. Monday because of air conditioning problems.
The district also canceled middle school athletic events on Monday and Tuesday. Tuesday’s middle school football game at Griffth was also canceled.
High school athletic teams have been instructed to practice indoors.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the region from noon until 10 p.m. Tuesday, with expected heat index values between 105 and 109.
A chance of storms is predicted for Tuesday night, with more moderate temperatures in the low 80s on Wednesday.
