New sentence date for ‘19 murder
Drew Carter, 46, of Gary will be sentenced at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 9 after he was assigned a public defender Friday. He previously fired his two private lawyers after he was convicted of 36-year-old Jessica “Heaven” Flores’ 2019 murder.
Merrillville man charged putting tracker on car
John Vinson, 54, of Merrillville, was charged Thursday with three counts of stalking after putting a tracker on an ex-wife’s vehicle after she had a protection order against him.
Hobart man charged with voyeurism
Ashton Battistella, 20, of Hobart was charged Thursday with child exploitation and voyeurism. A probable cause affidavit stated he left a cell phone in a bathroom on Aug. 20 to record a girl, 15, as she took a shower.
