A Gary man is wanted after raping a friend near a Merrillville school last year.
Elijah M. Johnson, 28, was charged Thursday with rape, a Level 3 felony. He is not in custody. His bond is set at $40,000, or $4,000 cash surety.
Merrillville Police wrote they responded around 10 p.m. March 2, 2023.
The woman said she texted Johnson to give her a ride to work.
They stopped by a gas station for her to buy cigarettes. On the way back to her apartment, he passed the building and took her to a “dead end” street by Miller Elementary, 5901 Waite St., where he raped her in the car, charges state.
The case is before Judge Natalie Bokota.
